What pushes the price up
- The amputation level. Each joint you lose is a joint the leg has to replace. A hip leg has three; a below-knee leg has one, the ankle.
- The knee. For above-knee and higher levels the knee is the biggest single cost, from a simple locking knee to hydraulic knees costing several lakh.
- The foot. A locally made SACH foot costs a fraction of a carbon energy-return foot.
- The liner and suspension. Straps and socks cost little; silicone liners, seal-in and vacuum systems cost more and need replacing.
- Socket material. Laminated sockets with carbon are lighter and stronger, and cost more than simple ones.
- Your stump. Scars, grafts or a very short or very long limb mean more fitting time and sometimes special parts.

Where spending more makes a real difference

A better foot, if you walk a lot
For long days on your feet, a dynamic or carbon foot saves energy every step.
Compare feet
A better knee, if your balance is good
A freer knee helps active walkers. For unsteady walkers, it is money spent on risk.
Compare knees
A good liner, if your skin is fragile
Scarred, thin or diabetic skin often needs a better liner more than a better foot.
Liners and sockets
Local parts, where they do the job
Pylons, adapters and simple feet made locally can be perfectly sound.
Local vs imported
How to spend less without regretting it
- Spend on the socket first. A cheap foot on a good socket beats an expensive foot on a bad one, every time.
- Start with a safe, simple knee. You can upgrade the knee later without remaking the socket.
- Match the foot to your real walking. If you walk a few hundred metres a day, a premium carbon foot is money you will not feel.
- Keep the parts when the socket changes. In the first year the stump shrinks. A new socket on your existing parts costs far less than a new leg.
- Look after the leg. Regular checks and a clean liner add years to the parts.

What to expect over the years
| Item | How often | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| New socket | Every 1 to 3 years, sooner in year one | Rs 40,000 to 200,000 |
| Liner | Every 1 to 2 years | Rs 15,000 to 60,000 |
| Stump socks | A few a year | Low cost |
| Foot | Every 3 to 5 years | Rs 15,000 to 400,000+ |
| Knee service or replacement | Every 3 to 5 years | Depends on the knee |

Price questions
Why do prosthetic leg prices vary so much between clinics?
Clinics use very different parts and very different amounts of fitting time. A cheap quote may mean a ready-made socket, no test socket and no training. Always ask what is included: casting, test socket, liner, foot and knee make, fitting visits and follow-up.
Is the cheapest prosthetic leg good enough?
For walking at home and short distances, a well-made affordable leg with a socket made on your own cast is often enough. The socket matters far more than the price of the foot. What is never good enough is a leg with a poorly fitting socket, at any price.
Does the price include walking training?
Fitting and walking training are part of every complete leg we make. The number of sessions depends on your level and progress, and we tell you what to expect at the assessment.
What does a prosthetic leg cost over ten years?
Expect a new socket every one to three years, a new liner every year or two if you use one, and a new foot or knee every three to five years. Planning for these costs from the start avoids surprises.
Can you give me an exact price over the phone?
We can give you a likely range from a photo and a few details on WhatsApp. The exact price comes after the free assessment, because it depends on your stump, your strength and the parts that suit you.
