Getting started

Who is a prosthetic leg right for?

Most people who have lost a leg and can stand with support on the other leg. The honest exceptions are people whose heart or breathing cannot manage the extra effort, or whose wound will not heal. We assess this free before you spend anything.

Can I see you before the operation?

Yes. If an amputation is planned, a talk with us before surgery helps you understand the level, what the leg will look like and how long the process takes. Some families find it makes the decision less frightening.

Do I need my surgeon's permission?

You do not need a letter, but we need to know the wound has healed. If anything about the stump worries us, we will ask you to see your surgeon first.

Cost

Why is one clinic's price so much lower than another's?

Usually because less is included: a ready-made socket, no test socket, no training or no follow-up. Ask exactly what the price covers before comparing.

Do I pay for the test socket separately?

No. The clear test socket is part of making every complete leg, and its cost is inside the price we agree.

Can the price change after we agree it?

Not unless you agree. If something unexpected changes, such as the stump needing a different socket design, we explain the difference and you decide.

Comfort and fit

How heavy is a prosthetic leg?

A below-knee leg usually weighs around one to two kilograms, an above-knee leg more. A well-fitted leg feels lighter than it is, because it is held firmly and moves with you.

Why does my stump sweat so much in the socket?

Liners trap heat, and Karachi is humid. Washing the liner daily, drying the skin fully, and changing socks during long days helps. Persistent sweat rash needs a check.

Is it normal to feel the missing foot?

Yes. Feeling the missing leg is very common, and it often fades over time. Pain in the missing leg should be discussed with your doctor, as treatments can help.

Daily life

Can I sleep with my prosthetic leg on?

No. Take it off at night so the skin can rest and breathe, and check the stump before you sleep. Keep it within reach of the bed for night-time trips to the bathroom.

Can I travel by air or by coach with a prosthetic leg?

Yes. Tell the airline security staff before screening. On long coach journeys, loosen the leg at rest stops and stand up when you can. Carry spare socks.

Can women wear their usual clothes and shoes?

Yes. Shalwar kameez and most shoes work well. A cosmetic cover gives a natural shape, and we can set the leg for the heel height you wear most.

Check-ups and repairs

How often should a prosthetic leg be checked?

Every few months in the first year, then once or twice a year. Children need checks more often because they grow.

My socket cracked. Can I still wear it?

No. A cracked socket can break suddenly and cause a fall. Stop wearing it and call us; a crack can sometimes be repaired, otherwise a new socket is made.

Can you fix a leg I bought abroad?

Usually, yes. Most legs use standard adapters. If a branded part needs factory service, we tell you the cost and the time before sending it.

Not sure this is the right leg for you?

Send a photo of the stump and a line about your health on WhatsApp. We will tell you honestly what fits, and what it is likely to cost, before you travel or pay anything.
